Why a QR code needs a clear border

A QR code can look sharp and still fail to scan when nearby graphics crowd its edge. Keep a clear margin in the final layout, not just in the export.

The margin belongs to the code

The quiet zone is the empty area around the QR modules. Keep at least four module widths clear on every side for a standard QR code. Measure a module in the actual code: a fixed number of pixels is not a useful rule when artwork is resized.

Check the destination layout

A border in the exported image can disappear when someone crops it in a page layout. A colored photograph, line or label touching the code can interfere with detection. Include the quiet zone inside the artwork handed to a printer.

Test the finished object

Export your code from FlexiQR, place it in the real layout and print a proof. Scan at the intended size with more than one phone. If it fails, remove surrounding decoration and restore a plain light margin before changing other settings.

What to keep in your project

Save an editable original separately from the print file. Record which version was tested. An on-screen readability check helps detect a decoding problem, but it does not test glare, folds or trimming on the finished object.
