Do static QR codes expire? What can stop working

A static QR code has no service-controlled expiry date. The code can stay readable while the website or credentials inside it stop being useful.

Separate the code from its destination

A URL QR stores an address. The printed pattern does not depend on keeping an account with a QR service. The domain, hosting, page and TLS certificate at that address still need maintenance.

A printed code cannot update itself

Editing a saved FlexiQR project creates new artwork; it does not change copies already in circulation. For a stable printed code, use a URL on a domain you control and update the page behind it. This requires maintaining your website.

Credentials and contacts can go stale

A Wi-Fi QR can remain perfectly readable after the network password changes, but it will no longer connect guests. A vCard can save an outdated phone number. Replace codes when the data directly encoded in them change.

Keep a small maintenance record

Record where each important code is used, what it points to and who maintains that destination. Scan a sample periodically and after changing a website, network or business contact. Static generation avoids a QR-service expiry, not ordinary upkeep.
